Author Talk: Failing to Launch-Understanding & Resolving the Young Adult Crisis
Today's young adults are struggling, and the numbers prove it. Nearly half of 18- to 29-year-olds are still living at home. Many are sitting behind screens playing video games late into the night. Of those who leave home, one in four cuts off communications with their parents at some point during their young adult years. Gen Z (14-29 year old's) are the most wired generation yet have the highest rates of loneliness (over 70%). Males in particular are falling behind in entering and completing college and entering the workforce. They are also our times more likely to experience deaths of despair- suicide, homicide, and accidents, including overdose, than females. These challenges are more than statistics. They represent real risk factors that, left unaddressed, can have serious consequences for individuals, families, and communities. Dr. Jack Stoltzfus will walk you through what's driving this crisis and, more importantly, what we can do about it. He'll share his proven formula for helping parents successfully launch their young adults into independent, fulfilling lives, and open the floor for questions from seniors eager to support the young people in their lives. -
Author Talk: Girls in a World at War
Join Peggy Munro Scholberg as she shares her mother’s remarkable firsthand experiences serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, including her time stationed in France during the Battle of the Bulge. Through short readings from Girls in a World at War and a moving photo slideshow presentation, participants will step into a world shaped by courage, sacrifice, romance, tragedy, and hope. This engaging program brings history to life through personal stories and images that capture both the hardships and the humanity of wartime service. Light refreshments will be served. Autographed copies of the book will be available for purchase following the presentation. Peggy Munro Scholberg is honored to share her mother’s World War II story through the publication of Girls in a World at War. Peggy and her husband, Bill, live in Apple Valley, Minnesota, where they raised their two sons. Together, they retraced her parents’ travels throughout Europe and explored the history and locations connected to their wartime experiences. After a successful career as a pharmacy manager, Peggy is now enjoying retirement and the opportunity to bring her family’s remarkable story to audiences and readers. Like her mother, she enjoys experimenting in the kitchen and trying new recipes, while also sharing her father’s lifelong love of sports. -

Getting Started in Hydroponic Gardening
This class will focus on growing edible things--fruits and vegetables--rather than flowers. You'll get an overview of hydroponics and how it compares to soil-based gardening. We'll briefly review several common hydroponic techniques and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of these techniques. The focus of the class will be on one particular technique, "Deep Water Culture." A variation on this technique will be used in a simple, hands-on project you'll work on at home, which will involve growing a head of lettuce. The goals of this project will be to give you experience with some of the basics of hydroponic growing and to provide knowledge that will help you step up to more complex systems that are capable of growing a wider variety of crops, if you choose to do so later.
