This class is free thanks to a sponsorship from the instructor Renee Salzbrenner. Why have one? A healthcare directive is a legal document where you outline your preferences for future medical care and appoint a trusted person, called a health care agent, to make decisions on your behalf when you can't. It allows you to express your values and wishes regarding treatments, end-of-life care, and other important aspects of your health care, ensuring your preferences are honored if you are unable to communicate them yourself. l've made one before, do I need to revisit it or update it? Yes, you should periodically review and potentially update your health directive, especially after significant life events such as a new diagnosis, a change in your personal or family situation, or moving to a new state. Treat your advance directive as a "living document" that you should check for accuracy and relevance, ideally at least once a year or when your health circumstances change. In class we will look at the two 2 forms available, a short form and a long form. Time for questions and where you can go online to gain more information. You do not need an attorney to complete one, or have it notarized, can be witnessed by a neighbor or friend.
