Did slavery itself cause the Civil War, or was it the election of Abraham Lincoln? How did slavery shape the nation’s politics, and why did Southern society fear free Black people? Learn about Lincoln’s plans to buy slaves from their masters and where did he want to send them when the war was over?
Kathleen Simmer
Kathy Simmer taught in the St. Paul Public Schools and was very interested in historical research. Upon retirement she began teaching classes on American history topics in several suburbs and for various organizations. She likes to include the details that are often left out of the history books.
