Day Trip: St. Paul Art DecoTrips & TravelTake a docent-led Art Deco Tour of the Ramsey County Courthouse and Saint Paul City Hall. Tour the architecturally significant spaces and features within Saint Paul City Hall/Ramsey County Courthouse. It is a 21-story Art Deco skyscraper which opened to the public in 1932. The building serves as the main location for Minnesota’s Second Judicial Court and City Hall. It contains The Vision of Peace, the world’s largest carved onyx statue. The building has 23 kinds of wood from 18 countries and various marbles throughout. This is a working building; not all rooms are available to tour at all times. The building is subject to security issues and government regulations that may require last-minute restrictions and changes. Visitors will be walking and standing for approximately 90-minutes. We will have lunch at the Union Depot's, 1881 Eating House, which reflects the style and quality of the Lake Elmo Inn family. After lunch we will have a guided narrated tour of the Union Depot. Day Trip: Wabasha Street Caves & Gangster TourTrips & TravelDuring this adventure, you will experience two unique experiences, the Wabasha Cave History Tour and the original Saint Paul Gangster Tour! The Historic Tour begins in the 1800s when the location was a silica mine and travels in time to when it was a mushroom farm. Eventually it was developed into a gangsters’ hotspot during the 1920’s prohibition era! All caves are accessible, and heated to room temperature. For the Saint Paul Gangster Tour we will board a motorcoach and ride in comfort as a costumed gangster character guides you throughout the 5-mile area of St. Paul. You will learn why Saint Paul was a center for bootlegging operations and criminal activities during the prohibition era and beyond. You will see where these criminals "lived it up" as they planned and executed some of the most nefarious crimes ever perpetrated in the upper Midwest. You will learn about notorious hoodlums like John Dillinger, Baby Face Nelson, Alvin "Creepy" Karpis, Fred Barker, Arthur "Doc" Barker, and Ma Barker. Join us for a journey through the days when Saint Paul streets were filled with corruption.
